MOTHERING SUNDAY PRIZE DRAW
Mothering Sunday is a day honouring mothers and has been celebrated in the British Isles and elsewhere in the English-speaking world on the fourth Sunday in Lent since the Middle Ages. Everyone celebrates it in their own way, from kids preparing mum a much deserved breakfast in bed to older children treating mum to a quintessentially British afternoon tea, gifts of jewellery, flowers, chocolates or clothes. We now see it as a universally loved day of affection and celebration.
This year, whether you are a Mum, have a Mum or have someone you love like a daughter or Mum, make Mothering Sunday an opportunity to celebrate that love. Women, old, young, close or far, every one of us is a star.
A vicar once gave me a little posy of flowers on Mothers Day, when I confessed that I sadly was not a Mum at the time, he advised that all women have what it takes to be a Mum and should therefore be celebrated on this wonderful day. It brought a tear to my eye and I’ve often thought of his kindness (thank you lovely vicar who was based at Rudford church all those years ago).
